In the newest ‘Bridget Jones’ movie, Hugh Grant plays Daniel Cleaver once again.
About his part in the upcoming Bridget Jones movie, Hugh Grant has been candid.
In an interview with Graham Norton, Grant disclosed that the character he portrayed in the movie, Daniel Cleaver, had a less prominent role.
Based on Helen Fielding’s novel Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, the movie tracks Renee Zellweger’s character Bridget as she comes to terms with being a single mother following the passing of her husband, Mark Darcy. Daniel, on the other hand, played the adversary and Bridget’s previous love interest in the previous movies.
Grant stated he came up with an alternative backstory for his character to make Daniel’s return fit better, despite the fact that there was no obvious role for Daniel in this new plot.
“The screenplay is well-written and poignant; it is both incredibly humorous and terribly sad. I was jam-packed in, but there was no clear part for me,” he remarked. “So we didn’t have a sixty-year-old Daniel Cleaver going about staring at little girls, so I made up a fantastic interim tale for him.”
Grant also disclosed that his parents had not encouraged his acting career, adding, “My mother, who attended church, wished for me to become the Archbishop of Canterbury. Show business held no significance in their world.”
“My mother went to a dinner party with like-minded people, and when asked about her two sons, she said, ‘One is an investment banker and the other is a film star,'” he claimed, recalling the moment when Four Weddings and a Funeral made him famous. ‘How fascinating, which bank?’ inquired a fellow guest. I was raised in that world.”
