Metta has introduced new youth safety tools on the photo-sharing app Instagram, aimed at preventing youth from being blackmailed.
According to the company, it is now making it harder for suspicious accounts to target young people on Instagram
Requests from suspicious accounts will be investigated and sent to spam folders or completely blocked by the company, the agency said.
Instagram is also working on an alert that will warn teenagers about a message they receive from a suspicious account. It will state that the message was sent from another country.
Likewise, if a suspicious account is already following a youth, it will be blocked from viewing youth follower lists and accounts that tag it in posts.
However, Meta did not clarify how such suspicious accounts would be determined. According to a company spokesperson, various factors like the account holder’s age and friend list, etc. will be taken into consideration.
